Nose surgery (Rhinoplasty) The nose is a dominant part of the face. Its shape anomaly is either natal or gained. The shape change can be followed by function failure (breathing). The first mentions of nose surgeries are a few thousand years old. The gradual evolutions of the techniques speaks of its complexity and the interest of the surgeons to make a "perfect" shape. Each operation should be consulted with the surgeon. Tell him the problems that draws a person to undertake the surgery. Also what the person expect from the surgery. Whether the reason is esthetic, functional or psychological. Each rhinoplasty is unique. The best time to do it is after the stop of growth at about the age of 16-18 up to 30 years. The operation can be divided into two groups. Rhinoplasty of so called soft nose; that is the operation of the nose tip. The second one is a reconstruction of the nasal bones. This is called hard nose rhinoplasty. Sometime it is necessary to change the shape by an inlay. Easier operations are done with a local anesthesia, more complex ones either combined with analgosedative or a complete anesthesia, whichever the patient prefers. The operation is ended by attaching a nose tamponade and a plaster splint to fix the new shape. The patient the breaths only with the mouth. The tamponade is detached on the third day. At this phase, the patient cleans the nostrils several times a day with a wet brush. The hospitalization lasts till the second day after the surgery. Swellings and blood fluxion in the eye area disappear within 10 days. The splint is released on the tenth day. 2-3 months after the surgery, all sport activities are prohibited. It could cause a change of shape. The stabilization time is about 1 year. This period can differ and the final result depends on following the advice and good cooperation with the surgeon. |
